The last era before the big reboot! After starting off with another check-in on the Illuminati, this era jumps right into a big event with Axis. Axis has a logo I hate because I always read it as Sixis. It’s also the big culmination of one of the two major storylines we’ve been following in Uncanny Avengers – the one about the Red Skull. After that, it’s on to Black Vortex, a cool little crossover between the time-displaced X-Men and the Guardians of the Galaxy. After that… admittedly, after that, most of the intrigue is found in the pages of New Avengers and Avengers. The X-Men aren’t in most of those issues (well, except for Beast of course) but these issues are absolutely necessary as setup for Secret Wars. They are also really good. The other X-Men stuff has it’s highlights, but it’s admittedly mostly background noise until after Marvel’s main event. Brian Michael Bendis’ run on his two X-titles ends here, so that’s another reason to follow this through.
