The first section of X-history is the Silver Age. This contains the entire initial run of X-Men with the original five (Cyclops, Iceman, Beast, Angel, and Marvel Girl) as well as the two later additions to the team (Havok and Polaris). The series was actually not one of Marvel’s more successful ones during this initial run and beginning with issue #67, Marvel stopped writing new X-Men stories and just used the title to reprint previous issues. This lasted until Chris Claremont was hired to revamp the series with issue #94. Because of this, I have included X-Men: The Hidden Years by John Byrne in this order, even though I usually do not include seperate series written many years after the fact only to serve as flashbacks. I included this series because it attempts to bridge a gap of several years which is otherwise somewhat inexplicable from a storytelling standpoint, and also because it is written by John Byrne, who worked with Chris Claremont on many of his early issues in the revamp of the mid-70’s that would make the X-Men into the legends they are today. It seemed like a natural bridge, and it’s written well enough to be a worthy inclusion (especially considering the relatively low quality of most X-Men issues from this early era).
